Clay raises $115M Series D as AI agents move into go-to-market workflows
Wellington Management leads, with Sequoia, Andreessen Horowitz and StepStone returning to the New York company.
Clay has raised $115 million in a Series D led by Wellington Management. Sequoia, Andreessen Horowitz and StepStone participated. The New York company builds AI-driven sales and marketing automation with agent workflows.
The category question
Go-to-market tooling is one of the few enterprise software categories where AI agents have found a genuinely defensible use case, for a slightly unglamorous reason: the work is high-volume, repetitive, and tolerant of error rates that would be unacceptable elsewhere.
Researching a prospect, enriching a record, drafting an outbound sequence - these are tasks where an agent that is right most of the time is still a large improvement over a human doing them by hand, and where a mistake costs an ignored email rather than a compliance incident.
That tolerance is why the category has scaled ahead of more obviously valuable agent applications.
The investor signal
Wellington leading is the detail worth noting. Crossover investors returning to lead private rounds is generally a late-cycle indicator, and it usually attaches to companies with revenue profiles that would survive a public listing.
